Michael Wagner made the recordings while teaching at Pope John XXIII and Reverend Brown schools, Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray, Chief of Detectives Thomas McCormick, and Sparta Police Chief Jeff McCarrick said.
In October 2022, a teacher at Pope John in Sparta overhead several students talking about Wagner recording them during class, authorities said. A forensic examination of Wagner’s cell phone computers, and hard drives resulting in the recovery of hundreds of videos and photos taken by Wagner of students without their knowledge or consent, authorities said.
Detectives determined Wagner possessed and viewed child porn, authorities said. In May, Wagner pleaded guilty to child endangerment and manufacturing of child sexual abuse, authorities said.
Wagner must forfeit his teaching license, authorities said.
